By now, you probably know that Polar Loop quietly tracks your activity, sleep, recovery, and sportsâwithout nudging, buzzing, or pulling you out of the moment. Itâs health and sports tracking without the noise.
But whatâs it really like to live with Polar Loop? To find out, we asked Polar colleagues David Jones and Anssi Mäkelä to sit down and talk it out.
Hereâs their conversation.

âWhy we built it this wayâ
Anssi:
So, one of the questions we get asked a lot isâwhy doesnât Polar Loop have a screen?
David:
Yeah. Like⌠âWhereâs my step count?â
And itâs a totally fair question. But honestly, that was one of our very first decisionsâon purpose.
Anssi:
Right. We didnât want to build something that pulls your attention. We wanted to build something that disappearsâuntil you need it. Something you forget youâre wearing, but that still gives you real insight.
David:
There are already a lot of devices that keep you checking in, pinging you, tracking every moment. âPing! Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping!â
But sometimes that turns health into⌠another job. Another metric to chase.
Anssi:
Exactly. And thatâs why we built Polar Loop to feel simple. Comfortable, soft materials. A clean, screenless form. No charging every night. No subscriptions. Just signal, not noise.
David:
We wanted it to be something you trust, not something that overwhelms you. Something that gives you clarity, not pressure.
Anssi:
If itâs working, you forget itâs there. Thatâs the point.

"Feel the difference"
David:
We didnât want it to feel like a device. We wanted it to feel like⌠nothing.
Anssi:
Itâs just 29g grams, including the band⌠can you believe that?
David:
That was the idea. Polar Loop is made with this soft, stretchable knit â itâs breathable, itâs light, and honestly⌠you kind of forget itâs there. And that was the point.
You donât need tech that reminds you itâs tech. You need something that works with your body, not against it.
Anssi:
Exactly. No plastic buckle. Just soft contact and simple design that feels like⌠youâve already been wearing it forever. Because when itâs comfortableâyouâll actually keep wearing it. Even while sleeping.
And thatâs when the data gets meaningful.

"How freaking simple can it be?"
Anssi:
I was just blown-away by how easy it was to use!
David:
I know! It took me a while to realize that you donât need to press any buttons!
Anssi:
Haha! Like, âHow do you turn this thing on?â
David:
Exactly! And I was still checking my wrist for the screen every few minutes
Anssi:
Yeah! Honestly, I didnât think it was working, so I kept looking for the little LEDs on the back to see if they were on.
David:
But it does work!
Anssi:
It does! Not only does it work, but itâs just so freaking simple! You wear it, you go about your day, and...
David:
...you forget youâre wearing it?
Anssi:
Yes! And then at the end of the day, you check the Flow app, and there it all is: Every step, every beat, every session, and every hour you slept.
David:
Itâs like magic! Haha!
Anssi:
I donât know about magic, but itâs just a beautiful experience.

"Movement without pressure"
Anssi:
I used to check my steps and activity⌠all day. After breakfast. After lunch. Before bed. And it started feeling less like motivationâand more like pressure.
David:
I feel you. Itâs a chore to close those rings, isnât it?
Anssi:
Then I switched to the Polar Loop. No screen. No buzzing reminders. Just⌠quiet tracking in the background. And weirdly? Thatâs when things shifted.
David:
How did it feel?
Anssi:
I started moving moreânot because I was chasing numbers. But because I actually felt like moving. Taking walks felt lighter. Stretching felt good again. It wasnât about hitting a goal. It was about coming back to my body.

"Youâre not lazyâŚ"
David:
Honestly, when I joined Polar, I used to think I was just lazy. Like, I wasnât training much. I donât run marathons. I wasnât even getting my steps in most days.
Anssi:
Yeah but youâve got three kids and youâre constantly on the move! Haha!
David:
Exactly! But I never counted any of that.
Anssi:
Itâs like if itâs not in a gym or on Strava, it doesnât count.
David:
Yep. Then I started tracking and realized I was doing way more than I thought. School runs. Groceries. Walking during calls. Playing with the kids. Itâs all in there.
Anssi:
Thatâs what I love. It tracks your life. Not just workouts. Every effort counts.
David:
Yeah. Well, the good thing about seeing the data is that it genuinely motivates you to want to do more.
Anssi:
Yeah, I totally get that! Itâs like you start understanding what your body is capable of?
David:
Yep. And it turns out...I wasnât lazy. I was just counting the wrong things.
âBuilt on science, Not guessworkâ
David:
I recently started training with a personal coach at the gymâtwice a week. And wow⌠Iâm absolutely wiped.
Anssi:
Sure, thatâs a whole different level. I bet Polar Loop now says youâre overreaching.
David:
It sure does. But thatâs all part of the plan: push a little harder first, then follow it up with an easier week of lighter sessions.
Anssi:
Did you know that Polar Training Load Pro calculations are based on scientifically accepted methods?
David:
Of course, itâs Polar. Weâve been doing this for nearly five decades. Every feature â from heartârate tracking to recovery metrics â comes straight from science. This is why coaches, athletes, and researchers trust it. Not because itâs flashy â but because itâs proven by research.
Anssi:
Exactly. Right now, your strain is much higher than your toleranceâthatâs why youâre overreaching. Both your cardio load and muscle load are high. Thatâs what Polar Loop is tracking, so make sure to take it easier next week.
"Mindfulness"
David:
The other day I went for a run.
Anssi:
Nooo! I donât believe you. You did?
David:
Yeah! Five full miles.
Anssi:
How was it?
David:
Different. This time I decided to leave my Grit X2 Pro at home and just wear Polar Loop. Funny enough, it completely changed my run.
Anssi:
I get that. No urge to keep flicking your wrist to check pace or distance. And without that pressure, thereâs no stress about hitting a number. Simply, running by feel.
David:
Exactly. Running by feel was so freeing. I focused on my breathing, my posture, and after a while I got lost in my thoughts. I almost forgot I was running. Mindfulness.
Anssi:
And you still got your route saved, right? So itâs in Strava.
David:
Yes, itâs in Strava because I started the run from the Polar Flow app.
"A bad case of Mondays"
Anssi:
Donât you just feel like youâre being told to move more or do more constantly?
David:
Yeah, like youâre failing at life if you didnât walk 10,000 steps today?
Anssi:
Ha! Exactly! I used to check my steps constantly. After breakfast. After lunch. Before bed. Like, am I allowed to sit now?
David:
Haha! Been there. Jumping up and down like a madman to try and hit that 100% for the day! Haha!
Anssi:
Haha! Yeah! Well, thatâs why I like Polar Loop. No screen. No reminders. No pressure. It just works...quietly...in the background.
David:
Nice! And does it help? Have you seen a difference?
Anssi:
Yeah! But not âcause I was chasing numbers or being reminded to move. But because I actually felt like moving. And the pressure was off. It stopped being about hitting a goal.
And started being about doing what felt right when it felt right.
David:
Man, I love that. Less pressure. More presence.
Anssi:
Exactly. I didnât need a reminder to move. I just needed to stop stressing about it.
