I feel that the FT80 has been a very large part of my journey as a motivational tool -Andreas Andersen

Not 5 months ago I was overweight and looking back this was the reason for being very unhappy with myself which made me a miserable person to be around for my wife, son and even our dog. I had no motivation for exercising and I would spend my evenings self-loathing with cigarettes and chocolate. For my 30th Birthday I decided to make a change and I bought myself an FT80 and instead of cigarettes and chocolate my evenings are now spent jogging the streets of my suburb. I also now ride my bicycle to work every day and since my birthday in April I have lost over 10kgs and have participated in my first triathlon. I feel that the FT80 has been a very large part of my journey as a motivational tool. When I first started out I was struggling to get out of the door but the Star program really helped me get moving and continues to do so even now. I wear my unit as a wristwatch and on top of receiving compliments daily it also reminds me of where I used to be and where I would like to go. My transformation from couch potatoe to someone who misses running when on forced recovery I owe to the Polar FT80.

I have found that using the star training program has improved my motivation to get out and be active -Cameron Smith

For me, motivation was the biggest problem I had with exercising. Achievements were often fairly small and took quite a while to accomplish. I have found that using the star training program has improved my motivation to get out and be active, working towards a trophy or stars at the end of the week. The sense of guilt I have when my watch tells me to "train a lot more" was completely unexpected since its just coming from a watch. Likewise, the sense of achievement when being awarded a trophy was unexpected, and I quite enjoy telling my friends and family of my "trophy week".

My Ft80 has helped motivate me in ways that even a personal trainer has not been able to do -Henry Svendblad

I was approaching my 38th birthday and 2 years from turning the big 4"O" ! I decided that I needed to get into shape to . I had been a competitive swimmer in my youth and had exercised on and off for years but I had grown to 210lbs and over 20% body fat. I am 6ft 1in... I started restricting my calories and doing full body strenght workouts, swimming, and cardiovascular training. I started looking into heart rate monitors and settled on an FT80. I gave this to myself as an early birthday present. This has turned out to be the best gift I've ever received. Four months later and I am now in the best shape of my life. My stats, 178lbs and 8% body fat. I've also lost over 5 inches from my waist and have never felt better. My Ft80 has helped motivate me in ways that even a personal trainer has not been able to do. Just yesterday I was sitting at home and noted that I still needed 25 minutes of cardio in my "zone 3" to hit my weekly goal. I strapped on my running shoes and 45 minutes later had easily met my weekly goals. I would be happy to share more details of my success including pictures!

As time went by, I found out how valuable this tool is -AJ Lorello

My story is simple…No trophies…No competitions…Just a good old fashioned reality check. It all started with a very innocent health screening at work... They test your cholesterol and triglycerides as well as your vitals. During the cholesterol screening, I managed to max out the machine! My triglycerides were over 650 and my cholesterol was just under 230. The gentleman was quite blunt and I was told to go to my doctor as soon as possible, for a more accurate test. I thought about blowing it off and figured his machine was broken. After thinking it over for a bit and coming to my senses...I headed to the doctor. I found out his little machine wasn’t broken after all. My cholesterol was at 220 and my triglycerides at 350. My doctor told me that I was on a fast track to a heart attack and wanted to put me on cholesterol medication. She sent me out the door with a prescription. I left the doctors office and thought about my situation on the ride home...Do I take the medication or do I get off my lazy butt and get healthy? I didn't want to be 33 and headed for a heart attack or stuck to cholesterol medication. I figured it was time for a change. I changed my diet and joined a gym. Honestly, I hated the thought of joining a gym and had trouble going at first. I knew what I had to do, but I just couldn’t get the motivation. My manager at work is a tri-athlete and told me about his Polar heart rate monitor and how it helped him with motivation and allowed him to push harder. He told me all about the cadence monitor, the GPS, and how it helped him train. I figured that since I had no desire to be a tri-athlete…I didn’t need one. After a little internet research on my own...I figured I would jump in with both feet. I bought an FT80 and started using it at the gym. Still a little skeptical, I figured I could just sell it if I didn’t like it. After getting it out of the box, I found that I was going to have trouble putting it down. I have always liked gadgets, so this was right up my alley. During the first couple of days, work outs seemed to fly by because I was always checking my monitor. As time went by, I found out how valuable this tool is. I found out how far I can push myself and found "my zone". I can not remember the last time I worked out with out it. I use my monitor everyday during each workout. I really like the calorie monitor. It is set up for me. It’s not the “one size fits all” counter you find on every cardio machine. I monitor the calories burned to gauge my diet and adjust accordingly. I have owned my FT80 for about 8 months now. In that time I have dropped my cholesterol from 220 to 104 and my triglycerides from 350 to 53 in the first 4 months. I have shed over 20% body fat and reduced my waist from 40" to 32". My resting heart rate has dropped from 78 to 54. Now I feel great, look great, and the best part, no medication. I am in the best shape of my life. Thank you, Polar!

Look at your own condition Dad. -Andrew Davidson

My name is Andrew and 14 months ago last I made a decision that will save my life; I joined a local gym, signed up for Weight Watchers and bought a Polar FT7. Initially, the reason for joining was not about MY self improvement. I have a 14 year old son and he has been playing competitive tennis for a local team for a number of years. He has struggled to maintain his fitness and my wife and I were not the best personal role models. Last year as his season was ending in mid April (and tennis camps would not start until late June), my wife and I were concerned that he would sit around after school & most weekends and would subsequently gain weight with the inactivity. My son had been unhappy with his stamina, strength and endurance and at the time, could have benefited from shedding 10-15 pounds. A new gym (La Fitness) had just opened 1 mile from our house and my wife and I thought it would be a great idea to get him a membership. My wife and I have struggled for 20+ years with our weight issues and definitely had that “Do as we say, not as we do” message prepared. After sitting the boy down, pouring our heart and emotion ! into the family discussion, My son took it all in, said nothing and waited for us to finish our offer. At the end of the one sided 20 minute talk, he looked right at me and had one statement, “What about you Dad?” From the mouths of babes.Since I walked in to the gym and enrolled on April 27, 2009, I (we) have made significant changes in our lives. It has affected our entire family. I don’t tackle challenges lightly and my son's challenge to me was, “look at your own condition Dad.” At the time, I weighed over 275 pounds (at 5’ 4”) and had stopped any regular exercise routine. My health was becoming a major issue and I had problems ranging from borderline (essentially there) Type 2 Diabetes, neck pain, back pain, knee pain, constant heartburn, poor liver tests and a host of other conditions that made me a risk for even renewing a life insurance policy. I was in lousy shape and was a hundred pounds over where I needed to be. My wife was also approximately 90 pounds over weight and had been trying to be diligent to an exercise program at a competitive gym. She (by herself with no family support) had lost only about 10 pounds in a year of trying. I felt that over the last 10-11 years, I had gain! ed 9-10 pounds a year at a very consistent clip. My job has me traveling all over the country and I spend approximately 120-130 nights a year in some other city. I was headed towards an early grave. The gym, a nutritional plan from Weight watchers and Polar HR systems have changed my life. They are the 3 key elements to my success.1. I do not, will not skip any daily workouts and use Polar products to focus on Zone 2 (Fat Burn) and Zone 3 (Intensity) training. The first time I got on an elliptical (on April 27, 2009) I ran 2 miles in 25 minutes. Today, after over 345 visits to the gym this year, my routine is 6-7 miles a day on the elliptical (I have bad knees and ankles from years of soccer as a kid) and a free weight/circuit routine for 45-65 minutes 2-3 days a week, I am now in the BEST shape I have been since high school (25 years ago). I am even back to my love of playing tennis 4 to 5 times a week. I had not played tennis in years because of the chronic neck, back and knee pains. Now, I do SOMETHING every day and I am very much about the joy of raising your heart rate at least 45 minutes a day (more on tracking that later). The truth is, in the past in my travels, at the end of a long work day I would go back to my hotel, order in my food, watch tv and work in that room all night. I was in a routine, it was a bad routine. I am in a routine now, but it is a good routine. I am a creature of habit. Every time I go to a new city, I whip out my iphone and search for the closest La Fitness. In the rare event I can not find one in the area, I use the hotel fitness center, but I DO NOT skip my exercise. The laundry has been excessive and I am the cleanest guy in town from showering twice a day, but to date, I have dropped almost 98 pounds! I have had to buy new work suits, 3 times. It is a penalty I am happy to pay! I have lost 14 sizes on my waist (a 48 to now an approaching 34), 5 sizes on my neck – a 22 to a 17 and 4 shirt sizes – a 4X to L. I believe the program has worked for me because this time I started with exercise not fad dieting. After early success at the gym (1-2 months in to my program), I finally started to address my poor eating habits. When your arms and legs ache all the time from the no pain, no gain mentality, it is easier to think about wh! at you are eating.2. I joined Weight Watchers online for men last June (I have never been to a meeting, just the tools) and I follow the plan pretty religiously. Also last May, I stopped eating chicken and meat. I was a big, big meat eater (BBQ) and it wasn't just the big meat, it was all the big sides and big drink that went with it. By not choosing those items, I concentrate on my choices, eat low carb, high protein foods such as egg, tofu, beans, fish (I am not a big fan of fish, but I am definitely expanding in this area) and I even drink some protein shakes and waters. All in all, a lot of fruits, vegetables, yogurts and healthy choices (Special K products)! I try to be accurate with portions, look at the content of everything that goes in the shopping basket and always have a daily plan. I now bring a lot of the “good foods” on the road with me. It really helps to have the entire family on board with your goals. I took over ALL of the family food shopping and once I was really committed, my wife really jumped in as well. In the 14 months since we have been doing this together, she has lost another 70. My son (the start of all of this) is really on board and in the past year he has grown 2-3 inches and dropped 10 pounds. He is looking good! That is 180+ as a family...3. These days, my fitness is all about Maximize/Optimize #1 & #2. To this, you need Polar. I have gone to the next phase of really monitoring/tracking of my workouts. I started with a Polar FT 7, but in April this year, I graduated to using the Polar FT 80 watch (I picked the system because it works with Life Fitness machines and I now load all of my strength training workouts & AB workouts into the FT 80). I am addicted to polarpersonaltrainer.com. Workouts can vary in intensity and if you are not working out in the right heart rate zone...you may be over training and not achieving the goal of weight loss. Until my body shape was back in a normal BMI range, I wanted that focus only Fat Burn and Recovery. Now that I am below a 30, I push it a little to build harder muscle, intensify the toning and keep a very high rate of metabolism. The Polar system is nice because it has a great online interface and the Forums and Challenges among the members keep me very motivated. I! am regularly in 5-6 Challenges at any given time and the community provides great support! I pore over the charts and graphs that detail my progress and they are a great source of pride and motivation. I often post milestones on facebook or other social networking sites and the reach of polar continues as it inspires others not even in polar forums. I am starting to get quite a following of people that are participating and using the same methodology I have adopted. My first cousin started with an FT 7 in early February, and even though as a doctor with juvenile diabetes, his weight was always monitored, he had started to gain in the last few years. Since starting with Polar, he has dropped 30 pounds and feels in great shape! My wife now uses my old FT 7 and she is now optimizing her training so much, she runs a competitive 5K every month and is moving up a level in boot camp at her local gym. She looks great. We think about exercise all the time!So there you have it. My 3 stage plan and my new life all thanks to La Fitness, Weight Watchers and Polar. I feel great. I have a huge weight off of me and it has opened me up to being truly active and optimistic about my health and future. Recent lab reports from my primary show normal glucose, great liver, a cessation of my chronic neck, knee and back pain and I don’t take ANYTHING for meds. Thanks for reading my story…Exercise and Eat Right…who knew? Listen to your body!
