Popular Polar Beat App Now Tests Athletes’ Fitness

Today Polar added a series of new features to its unique new training app, Polar Beat. Beat is the world’s smartest training app, designed to add intelligence to training data for anyone who wants to get slimmer, run faster or go further. Polar Beat is already a leading fitness app in countries around the world. Now, Polar Beat users can benefit from a new in-app Fitness Test feature – a popular feature in Polar’s wrist heart rate monitors since 1999 – as well as an improved design to make speed and heart rate data analysis even easier.

When used together with a Polar heart rate sensor, like the Polar H6 or H7 Bluetooth Smart heart rate sensors, Beat helps people be smart about their training. They can plan their training target, train at the right intensity, understand the impact of their workout and accurately track calories burned. Polar has now added its proprietary in-app Fitness Test, to test a user’s fitness as it improves over time. In just five minutes the Polar Beat app, coupled with a Polar heart rate sensor, will predict a user’s maximal aerobic power – a gold standard measure of aerobic fitness. This test, which is carried out while the user is lying down, is based on personal information and heart rate measurement at rest.

Marco Suvilaakso, Group Product Director at Polar said: “We help exercisers to improve their performance by giving them intelligent insights into their training. The smarter the insights, the better their performance over time. The new Polar Fitness Test is a great way of comparing improvements in fitness over time. We encourage Beat app users to take the test early so they can benchmark their performance later this year. We’re also delighted to be able to release Beat in Spanish.”

Pricing, availability and compatibility Polar Beat can be found on Apple’s App Store from today at no cost. The new in-app fitness test feature can be purchased for €3.59 in addition to other in-app features providing advanced target setting and deeper real-time workout analysis. Beat is optimized for the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 and can also be used with the iPad 3, iPad 4 and iPad Mini.

Polar Beat’s enhanced features – like heart rate monitoring, accurate calorie counting and training intensity levels – require a Polar heart rate sensor such as the new Polar H6 heart rate sensor. The Polar H6 heart rate sensor pairs with Polar Beat using Bluetooth Smart for a high quality connection and minimal battery consumption. Discover more about Polar Beat and H6 at www.polar.com/beat.
