My story actually started about 25 years ago. Both my parents worked and when they go home it was toddy time, dinner, tv and bed. Everyday, year after year, my mom got lucky, I guess because she was fortunate to acquire good genes, my dad on the other hand wasn't so lucky. Fifty two years old and as quick as a flick of the switch it was over for him. Looking back all this could of been avoided with some get out and get active time. You see I started to live the same life they did work, cocktails, dinner, television, and bed. It wasn't my fault, it was just human nature. I was merely doing what I had seen my parents do all my life. Which brings me to my next topic, our kids. I see so many success stories about how I lost so much or now I can run this far, but never hey I am actively including my kids in my success. Our country has an ever growing problem with child obesity and they are the next generation. Why not teach them to start now while they have a better chance with a mentor not to mention it will be something they will remember forever. I started to see my son become an overweight xbox zombie. So I started to invite him to go with me. We trained together with my polar watch and even though it is programmed to my user settings his face would light up when I told him how many calories we burned together. He has now been at it with me for a few months and I can definitely see the difference in his energy and weight. He even rides his bike to school now, declining an invite from me to drive him instead. Sometimes we get all caught up with our own personal maters that we forget what really is important. Hopefully this story helps keep our kids (future) healthy and the obesity statistics down.
