How to Teach New Cycling Sensors to CS500

Your CS500 cycling computer can be “taught” to work together with the several sensors to measure heart rate, speed/pace, distance and power output. If you purchase a new Polar CS speed sensor W.I.N.D., Polar CS cadence sensor W.I.N.D. or Polar Power Output sensor W.I.N.D. as an accessory it has to be introduced to your cycling computer. This teaching procedure takes only a few seconds. It ensures that your cycling computer receives the signals only from your transmitter and enables disturbance-free exercise in a group.

Before entering an event or race, make sure that you do the teaching at home. This is to prevent interference due to the long-range data transmission.

You can have three bikes (Bike 1/2/3) on the cycling computer. Each bike has to have the sensors separately taught. You can only teach one speed, one cadence and one power sensor to one bike. If you have three bikes, all of them can use the same speed, cadence and power sensors. Or, they can each have their own set of sensors.
When you teach a new sensor to a bike that already has a previously-taught sensor in the memory, the new sensor replaces the previous one.

To teach a new cycling CS speed sensor W.I.N.D.
Make sure you are not near (40 m/ 131 ft) to other similar speed sensors.

1. Select Settings → Bike SET → Bike 1/2/3 → Speed SET → On
Speed TEACH? is displayed.

2. Confirm or cancel teaching:
a. Press OK to confirm teaching.
Test drive is displayed. Rotate the wheel a few times to activate the sensor. The flashing red light in the sensor indicates that the sensor is activated.
Completed! is displayed once the teaching process is finished successfully. The cycling computer is now ready to receive speed and distance data.
b. Press STOP to cancel teaching. The earlier-taught speed sensor is taken into use.

If you cancel the teaching and have not taught a speed sensor to the cycling computer earlier, speed information will not be shown during the exercise.

3. To return to time mode, press and hold the STOP button.

To teach a new cycling CS cadence sensor W.I.N.D.
Make sure you are not near (40 m/131 ft) to other similar cadence sensors.

1. Select Settings → Bike SET → Bike 1/2/3 → Cadence SET → On
Cadence TEACH? is displayed.

2. Confirm or cancel teaching:
a. Press OK to confirm teaching.
Test drive is displayed. Rotate the crank a few times to activate the sensor. The flashing red light in the sensor indicates that the sensor is activated.
Completed! is displayed once the teaching process is finished successfully. The cycling computer is now ready to receive cadence data.
b. Press STOP to cancel teaching. The earlier-taught cadence sensor is taken into use.

If you cancel the teaching and have not taught a cadence sensor to the cycling computer earlier, cadence information will not be shown during the exercise.

3. To return to time mode, press and hold the STOP button.

To Teach a new Power Output sensor W.I.N.D.
Make sure you are not near (40 m/ 131 ft) other similar power sensors.

1. Select Settings → Bike → Bike 1/2/3 → Power SET → On

  • C. length: Set chain length in millimeters. Accept the set value with OK.

  • C. weight: Set chain weight in grams. Accept the set value with OK.

  • S. length: Set span length in millimeters. Measure the distance from the center of the rear hub to the center of the bottom bracket as shown in the picture. Accept the set value with OK.

Power TEACH? is displayed.

The cycling computer is now ready to receive power data.
b. Press STOP to cancel teaching. The earlier-taught power sensor is taken into use.

If you cancel the teaching and have not taught a power sensor to the cycling computer earlier, power information will not be shown during the exercise.

3. To return to time mode, press and hold the STOP button.

If Teaching FAILED is displayed, the cycling computer may be detecting the signal of more than one speed/cadence/power sensor or the sensor is not activated. Make sure you are not near (40 m/ 131 ft) other speed/cadence/power sensors and press OK. Try again? is displayed. Press OK and rotate the wheel/crank a few times to activate the sensor.
