New, Red-Hot RCX5 comes with GPS and unique Polar coaching features

06/10/2011

Kempele, Finland – 6. October 2011 – Polar, the market leader and pioneer in heart rate training technology, has released the cutting-edge RCX5 training computer in a new, striking red color design for endurance athletes who want to perfect their training. It combines the intelligent Polar coaching features with accurate GPS accessory to guide you through all your sessions, so you train at your best, every time.

The exciting new features of the RCX5 guide you in planning, training and analyzing your performance in detail. The ZoneOptimizer helps you train at the right intensity, Sport Profiles guarantee swift switch between sports, and the Race Pace assists you to cross the finish line in time. The RCX5 is also a GPS-ready training computer, making it ideal for versatile multisport training.

Knowing how hard to train can be a challenge as your condition changes every day depending on a number of factors, including your physical and mental state, stress, sleep, and previous training. The ZoneOptimizer feature takes out the guesswork by adjusting your personal heart rate zones for every training session based on your current physiological condition. It will ensure you train at the right intensity to get the training effect you want, making your every session more effective.

The perfect feature for controlling your speed, Race Pace allows you to set a target time for a certain distance. It then helps you pace your run or ride by showing your current speed/pace and by telling in time, how much you are ahead or behind the set target. This will allow you to keep a steady pace while training and helps you get to the finish line in time in an event.

Sport Profiles are essential for multisport and triathlon athletes, giving sport-specific training data and enabling a quick switch between sports during training. With just a few button presses, this feature adjusts your training computer’s settings to the sport you’re doing. It also detects the sensors you need automatically, so you won’t lose any time or training data between your swim, ride, or run. You can find ready sport profiles on your RCX5 and set more with the Polar WebSync software.

The extremely small G5 GPS sensor (34 g) measures highly accurate speed/pace and distance and allows you to see your route on a map at polarpersonaltrainer.com web service after your session. There you can review all your training data at any point of your route. Rechargeable via micro USB for up to 20 hours of training, the G5 is light to wear in the soft and flexible armband (26 g), or in your pocket, which makes GPS easy to take with you whenever you need it. Compared to in-built GPS sensors, you can continue to use your RCX5 even if your G5 runs out of battery. The separate GPS sensor means that you get an eye-catching slim product which looks and feels good on both men and women.

If you’re into running, the s3+ stride sensor comes with a new, firm shoe attachment which guarantees highly accurate speed/pace and distance measurement. This small and lightweight sensor (23 g) is shock and water resistant, handling even the most demanding runs. By telling your running cadence and average stride length, s3+ can help you improve your running technique. The RCX5 can also calculate your Running Index, which scores your run, based on your speed and distance data from your GPS or stride sensor.

On the saddle, you can get your speed, distance and cadence measured by adding Polar cycling sensors using W.I.N.D. technology. The RCX5 gives heart rate even in water with a comfortable and disturbance-free WearLink®+ Hybrid heart rate sensor. Transferring data both in 5 kHz and 2.4 GHz, WearLink®+ Hybrid ensures that your heart rate signal is found at all times.

In addition to all the smart training features that guide you on your wrist, you can get more out of your training at polarpersonaltrainer.com. Besides seeing your route on a map, you can create for yourself complete endurance training programs for running and cycling, including warm-up, work and cool-down phases for each session. The training programs can be easily synched to your RCX5 via the DataLink data transfer unit.

After the session, you can transfer your training files to track your progress and analyze your exercise in detail at polarpersonaltrainer.com. The Training Load feature shows your cumulative training load as an easy-to-understand graph visualization, telling you when you will have recovered enough for your next session, and accurately predicts how your cumulative training load will develop based on your training plan. This will prevent you from over training and enable you to tailor your training sessions accordingly. You can also share your training experience with your Facebook friends by using the share button on the training session overview.

“The RCX5 adds smart guidance to your training, making it more than just GPS”, said Joona Laukka, Cycling, Running & Multisport Segment Manager for Polar Electro Oy. “With speed, distance and heart rate, you can get the full picture of your training. What’s best, the RCX5 keeps up with you in the water, on the saddle, on your run, and online, making it a true multisport product.”

The striking red RCX5 will be available in four different product sets with different sensors from September 2011. The basic set includes the RCX5 training computer, the WearLink®+ Hybrid heart rate sensor, the DataLink data transfer unit, and a Getting Started Guide. For runners, there is a product set with the s3+ stride sensor and cyclists can purchase a set with the CS speed sensor W.I.N.D. and Universal Bike Mount. The multisport set comes with the G5 GPS sensor.

No matter which product set you get, you can add compatible sensors later. All sensors can be purchased separately as accessories. The RCX5 is also compatible with the older G3 GPS sensor W.I.N.D. and the s3 stride sensor W.I.N.D. So if you want to upgrade your training computer, you don’t have to buy new sensors to enjoy the sport you love.
